Individuals with ASD experience a higher burden of co-occurring conditions impacting various body systems. They are more likely to be overweight or obese and have psychiatric conditions, such as anxiety and mood disorders. The majority (74%) of individuals with ASD had at least one comorbidity and a greater average number of comorbidities than their non-ASD siblings.
