Along the lines of community, it was shared by Kim Dodson (CEO of The Arc of Indiana) and among state agency leaders in recent weeks that this is a time to be a voice for the support you receive and those we serve. Kim shared some of the following tips for action among our communities:
- Reach out: Go to The Arc of Indiana website (https://www.arcind.org/our-programs/public-policy-advocacy/) and find your state and federal elected officials. Fill out their contact form or email them sharing who you are, your role (e.g., parent, professional, teacher) and how you are impacted or work with the topic at hand (e.g., education, Medicaid, ABA), share any part of your story you are comfortable with, and offer to be a resource to them at this time.
- Public comments: Sign up to receive updates on current bills at https://p2a.co/arcind-action. When bills open for public comments, share facts, information, your story and comments for or against bills.
- Find a community or advocacy group that is best for you: Search over various ways to get connected at our Information Network site - https://indiananetwork.org/get-connected/
