During our December Indiana Interagency Autism Coordinating Council (IIACC) meeting, Amanda Bruce was selected as the DISI Award winner for her meritorious service to individuals with special needs.
Amanda Bruce is a dedicated special education professional with over two decades of experience supporting students with multiple disabilities. She has dedicated her career to empowering students with diverse learning needs through innovative teaching and unwavering advocacy. As a graduate of Marion High School (1996) and Ball State University (2000) with a B.S. in Special Education, Amanda holds Indiana certifications in Mild Disabilities, Serious Emotional Disabilities, and Blind/Low Vision.
She has served as an Intensive Training Needs Teacher and Day School Coordinator at Warner School (IDTC) and currently teaches Blind/Low Vision Applied Skills at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI). Amanda is Braille proficient, an active mentor, and a member of the ISBVI Autism team. She has presented at national conferences, organized autism awareness initiatives, and volunteers extensively in her community.
Outside of her professional life, Amanda lives in Westfield, Indiana, with her husband Robert and their three beloved dogs Hazel, Kevin, and Ivy. A lifelong sports enthusiast, she is a Colts season ticket holder and an avid fan of Indiana teams, IndyCar racing, and the Indianapolis 500. Amanda loves traveling, fitness, and spending time with friends, bringing the same energy and joy to her personal life that she shares with her students every day.
